Yancheng Institute of Technology（YCIT) is a full-time public university in Jiangsu Province. Its two campuses on Jianjun Road and Hope Avenue are both located in Yancheng city, an open coastal city renowned as “oriental wetland inhabited by red-crowned cranes and milu deer”.

Yancheng Institute of Technology (YCIT) was established in May 1996 through the merger of Yancheng Industrial College and Yancheng Vocational College. Yancheng Industrial College, originally named Yancheng Institute of Technology, was founded in 1958. In 1986, it became one of only three exemplary higher industrial colleges in China specializing in building materials. Yancheng Vocational College was established in 1985. In 2000, Yancheng Accounting College, which had been founded in 1964, was incorporated into YCIT. YCIT achieved a significant milestone in 2018 when it was granted the authority to confer master’s degrees. In 2022, YCIT took another step forward in its academic development by being designated as a doctoral degree-granting institution in Jiangsu Province, pending final approval and implementation.

For half a century, especially since the mid-1990s, YCIT adheres to the principle of “Studious, Inquiring, Virtuous, Practical”, carries forward the “Iron Army Spirit” of the New Fourth Army. It keeps practicing the campus mainstream values of “advocating science, innovation, responsibility and excellence”, and carries out the developing strategy to “build the university by quality, strengthen the university by talents, revitalize the university by scientific research, renown the university by discipline and shape the university by culture”. YCIT focuses on the building materials industry, local economic and social construction to cultivate high-quality application-oriented senior talents, in order to continuously improve the scientific research and scientific and technological services, and enhance the school-running features with engineering as the main body and balanced development of science, engineering, arts, economics, management and agriculture.

At present, YCIT offers 79 undergraduate programs and 11 master’s degree programs in the 18 faculties. There are 24,000 plus full-time undergraduates, 1200 plus postgraduates recruited from 30 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) across the country. There are about 1800 staff with 1500 faculty members, among whom, 800 plus are full and associate professors or similar academic titles, more than 700 have doctorate degrees, nearly 500 postgraduate supervisors, over 20 top special term experts including academicians and Changjiang Scholars, 200 plus part-time professors. Over 500 (instances) are granted recipients of special Allowance from the State Council, provincial and municipal governments, and candidates for the Six Talent Peak, provincial 333 Project and Blue Project.

YCIT has achieved an excellent grade in the undergraduate teaching evaluation. It is a pilot university for the Ministry of Education (MOE) Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan, an implementing institution for the national 13th Five-Year Plan Industry-Education Integration Development Project, and a construction unit for first-class applied undergraduate universities in Jiangsu Province. YCIT has 13 State-Level First Class Undergraduate Professional Majors, 3 State-Level Characteristic Majors, 1 Pilot Project in the Undergraduate Comprehensive Reform, 4 Pilot Majors in the Excellence Program of the MOE, 7 Provincial-Level Key Majors, 16 Brand Majors of Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions, 12 First Class Undergraduate Majors in Jiangsu Province, 6 Excellence Program Majors in Jiangsu Province, 7 Industry-Education Integration Brand Majors in Jiangsu Province, 1 Demonstration Major for Ideological and Political Education in Jiangsu Province, 1 International Brand Major in Jiangsu Province, and 7 majors have passed China Engineering Education Professional Certification (assessment). The school has 10 State-Level First Class Undergraduate Courses, 1 State-Level quality open course demonstrated in video, and 2 State-Level excellent online open courses (Golden courses). It has established 1 State-Level engineering practice and education center, 1 State-Level off-campus practice and education base, 1 Modern Industry Institute by the MOE, 1 National Technology, Entrepreneurship and Practice Center of College Students, 2 Pilot Provincial Key Industrial Schools, 1 Provincial Key Emergency Management College Construction Site, 1 Provincial Key Base for Industry-Education Integration, 1 Provincial Excellent Grassroots Teaching Organization, 2 Experimental Centers of Talent Training Mode Innovation in Jiangsu Province, 11 Provincial Experimental Teaching and Practice Centers, 1 Pilot Provincial Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center for College Students, 1 Entrepreneurship Demonstration Center for College Students in Jiangsu Province, 1 Entrepreneurship Demonstration Park for College Students in Jiangsu Province, and 1 Jiangsu Province College Student Employment and Entrepreneurship Guidance Station. YCIT has won the National Teaching Achievement Second Prize and the Special Award of Teaching Achievements in Jiangsu Province. In student discipline competitions, it ranks 164th among regular undergraduate colleges and universities nationwide. Student teams have won first prizes in the Challenge Cup National College Students extracurricular academic and technological works competition, the Black Technology exhibition activity, and cross-discipline innovation. They have also won the gold medal in the national finals of the Challenge Cup Chinese College Students Entrepreneurial Plan Competition, and the silver medal in the China International College Students Innovation Competition. Students have achieved first prizes in the national finals of the Mathematical Modeling Contest for College Students (including postgraduates), the Mechanical Innovation Design Competition, and the Intelligent Car Competition. They have also won the world’s highest Industrial Design Award - Red Dot Award. The YCIT Voice of Dreams chorus has repeatedly won awards in competitions at home and abroad. In February 2011, it was invited to Vienna to participate in the Golden Hall Celebration Concert for the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Austria, and won the first prize of the first, fourth and fifth national college students art performance. Students have been honored with titles such as China College Students Self-Improvement Star and National Excellent Communist Youth League Member. Nearly 24% of the 2024 graduates (nearly 28% for science and engineering students) have been admitted to postgraduate programs. YCIT has been repeatedly recognized as an Outstanding Institute in Graduate Employment, Excellent Institute in Undergraduate Admission Publicity, and Excellent Postgraduate Admission Institute in Jiangsu Province.

YCIT actively adapts to the needs of Jiangsu coastal development, local economic construction, and building materials industry development, strengthening discipline construction and scientific research. Four disciplines - Engineering Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, and Environmental/Ecological Science - have entered the top 1% of global ESI rankings. YCIT possesses 6 provincial key disciplines. It has established 1 national-level technology transfer demonstration institution, 1 national-level university science park, 1 national intellectual property information public service station, 2 provincial-level military-civilian integration science and technology innovation platforms, 1 provincial 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center, 10 provincial key laboratories, 10 provincial engineering research centers, 2 provincial public technology service centers, 1 provincial mass entrepreneurship and innovation demonstration base, 69 provincial postgraduate workstations, 1 provincial off-campus research base for humanities and social sciences in higher education institutions, 1 provincial social science popularization base, 1 provincial science and technology innovation think tank base, 1 provincial think tank, 4 municipal-level key cultivating new-type think tanks, 2 municipal-level social science popularization bases, 8 university-level research institutes, 82 university-level research institutes (centers) (51 in science and engineering, 31 in social sciences), and 4 university-level think tanks. It has a ministerial-level science and technology novelty search workstation set by the Ministry of Education.

In recent years, YCIT has been awarded 299 national-level projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation, and 573 provincial and ministerial-level projects. The school has received 146 awards at or above the provincial and ministerial level, including 1 National Science and Technology Progress Second Prize, 2 Second Prizes for Outstanding Scientific Research Achievements in Higher Education Institutions, 24 Jiangsu Science and Technology Awards, and 5 Jiangsu Outstanding Achievement Awards in Philosophy and Social Sciences. The YCIT scholars have published 7,320 high-level papers in SCI, EI, CSSCI, and other indexed journals. It has been granted 2,642 invention patents, including 199 invention patents in 2024. According to statistics from authoritative institutions, the cumulative number of patent transfers from YCIT has reached 961, ranking 30th among universities nationwide.

YCIT has established friendly cooperative relationships with more than 60 higher education institutions from countries including the United States, Germany, Russia, Japan, as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan regions. It conducts inter-university exchanges and research cooperation projects such as credit recognition and joint master's degree programs. It also operates three Sino-foreign cooperative education programs approved by the Ministry of Education with the University of Greenwich in the UK and the University of Detroit Mercy in the US.

YCIT’s CPC Party Committee adheres to a people-oriented approach, vigorously promotes Party discipline, democratic governance, harmonious campus, and campus culture. It maintains an overall perspective and continuously strengthens its ability to lead scientific development. The university’s Party Committee has been recognized as an Outstanding Community-level Party Organization in Jiangsu Higher Education Institutions.
