The Physical Education Department of Yancheng Institute of Technology, established in 2000, was renamed the School of Physical Education in June 2021. The school adheres to the educational philosophy of "Health First" fully undertaking the university's physical education responsibilities while making bold advances and continuous exploration in sports talent cultivation, student physical fitness improvement, high-level athletic team development, and campus sports culture construction.
The school currently has 39 faculty and staff members, including 3 professors and 24 associate professors. 31 teachers hold master’s degrees or above, including 8 with doctoral degrees and 4 pursuing doctoral studies. The school comprises the Party and Administration Office, Discipline Construction Office, and Teaching and Research Office, with four teaching departments (Ball Games, Small Ball Games, Outdoor Development, and Body Training) and two experimental centers (Venue Management and Competition Testing). The outdoor sports facilities cover 94,241 square meters, while indoor facilities span 14,703 square meters.
The school focuses on developing distinctive physical education courses, emphasizing the integration of public physical education with cultural quality education, classroom teaching with extracurricular activities, and campus sports with community activities. It makes effective use of the existing teaching resources, and effectively grasps the after-school training and competitions, and promotes the teaching of clubs to improve the athletic skills of the students. The school has set up taekwondo, basketball, tennis, badminton, soccer, table tennis, tai chi, roller skating, cycling, fitness, swimming and more, which greatly enriches the campus cultural life of teachers and students. In recent years, the school has been approved to establish one provincial online open course, won three first prizes of provincial micro-courses and two second prizes of provincial physical education teachers’ skills competition. In the 17th and 18th Jiangsu University Games, the university achieved the 16th and 17th place in the total team score respectively, and was awarded the title of “Delegation of Sports Ethics Award”.
The school emphasizes research innovation to drive high-quality disciplinary development. Over the past decade, faculty members have undertaken over 80 national, provincial, ministerial and municipal research projects, led more than 20 horizontal research projects (accumulating nearly 5 million yuan in funding), received over 30 provincial and municipal research awards, obtained more than 20 authorized invention and utility model patents, published over 280 papers, and authored over 10 monographs.
At this new starting point, the School of Physical Education will collaborate organically with other teaching units and functional departments to promote the integration of physical education with moral, intellectual, aesthetic, and labor education as well as many other human activities. The school strives to foster students’ physical and mental health development, cultivate well-rounded individuals for the new era, and actively contribute to the university’s goal of becoming a high-level, first-class, and application-oriented university!
