The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Yancheng Institute of Technology traces its origins to the School of Humanities established in January 2003, offering three undergraduate majors: Chinese Language and Literature, Tourism Management, and Hotel Management. Currently, the School is staffed by 51 faculty and staff members, including 6 professors, 23 associate professors, and 28 doctorate holders (including those in progress), with a full-time undergraduate enrollment of 1,423 students.
The school upholds a teaching-centered approach, continuously improving the quality of talent cultivation. In recent years, the Chinese Language and Literature major has been designated as a Jiangsu Provincial First-Class Undergraduate Program, and the Tourism Management major has been recognized as a university-level key discipline. The school has received approval for two provincial-level First-Class Courses, and its faculty have compiled and published five textbooks, including Introduction to Tourism and Appreciation of Tourism Poetry and Prose. Faculty members have undertaken over 30 teaching reform projects at various levels and have won a third prize in the Jiangsu Provincial University Micro-Lecture Competition. Student teams have achieved outstanding results, including the Special Prize at the Jiangsu Provincial level and Third Prize at the national level in the Red-Themed Special Competition of the “Challenge Cup” National Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition; the Second Prize in the main “Challenge Cup” competition at the Jiangsu Provincial level; the Special Prize at the provincial level and Third Prize at the national level in the National College Competition of Red Tourism Creative Planning; as well as the First Prize in the National College Students’ Language and Literacy Competition, and the First Prize in the National College Students Advertising Art Contest.
The school remains committed to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. Adhering to the applied talent cultivation philosophy of “high moral standards, strong theoretical foundations, and comprehensive skills,” it places great importance on practical teaching and academic development planning. Over the past five years, it has established 33 employment and internship bases. More than 120 students have successfully pursued master’s degree programs at renowned domestic and international universities, and over 50 graduates have secured positions as civil servants or within public institutions and teaching posts.
The school is currently leveraging the pursuit of major breakthroughs in landmark teaching and research achievements to propel high-quality, connotation-driven development. It fully implements the university’s 14th Five-Year Plan, firmly upholds a teaching-first principle, and aims to cultivate outstanding talents. It strives for new achievements in education, teaching, discipline development, and scientific research. By building a high-quality educational management and social service system, the school will continuously advance towards a new era of high-quality development, forging a more brilliant future.
