From September 4 to 6, the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit was held in Beijing. Under the theme " Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a Community with a Shared Future," representatives from China and Africa gathered to strengthen friendship, discuss cooperation, and envision the future.
As a supporting event of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, the China-Africa Consortium of Universities Exchange Mechanism Annual Meeting and the China-Africa-UNESCO Dialogue on Education and Cultural Heritage Protection were held concurrently from September 5 to 7. YCIT Party President Shao Rong was invited to attend and delivered a report titled "Exploration and Practice of China-Africa University Cooperation for Environment and Sustainable Development" during the thematic dialogue session. Nearly 100 representatives from Chinese and African universities participated in the meeting.
In his report, President Shao shared YCIT's achievements as one of the 50 Chinese university members in the "China-Africa University Partnership Program." He highlighted collaborations with African institutions including Addis Ababa University (AAU) and Wolkite University (WKU) from Ethiopia, the National Research Centre (NRC) of Egypt, and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) of Nigeria. These partnerships have focused on establishing joint laboratories, co-supervising doctoral students, and conducting high-level scientific research. President Shao emphasized the importance and necessity of promoting joint research between Chinese and African universities in green low-carbon technologies and environmental sustainability through international cooperation platforms, particularly in the context of digital education and cross-cultural exchange.
He stated that YCIT will continue to expand its network of African university partners through joint education programs, credit recognition, international exchange projects, and participation in international academic competitions, with the aim of cultivating internationally-minded innovative talents. These efforts will contribute to building a China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.
During the meeting, the "Collection of China-Africa Higher Education Cooperation Cases" was officially released. YCIT's cooperation project "China-Africa Doctoral Training and Scientific Collaborative Innovation Project for Green Low-Carbon Development" was included in this collection.
