On the evening of October 6, the School of International Education at Yancheng Institute of Technology (YCIT) organized 30 international students to visit Yancheng Museum and participate in the gathering of "Mid-Autumn Eve at Yancheng Museum: A Shared Moment Under the Same Moon". Led by Qi Juan, Vice Dean of the School of International Education, the students wore traditional Chinese costumes (Hanfu), made mooncakes by hand, recited poems and admired the moon. Amid the museum’s pavilions and bright lanterns, they had an immersive experience of the unique charm of traditional Chinese festivals and spent a warm and unforgettable night.
The international students put on Hanfu and took a night tour of the museum, guided by museum docents holding lanterns. They wandered through various exhibition halls, listened to Yancheng’s historical stories in the quiet night, and felt the flow of its thousand-year cultural heritage. At the Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Center, they made unique "cultural relic-themed mooncakes". From kneading dough to pressing molds, enthusiastic students deeply understood the connotation of Mid-Autumn reunion through hands-on practice. While waiting for the mooncakes to bake, the students also tried interactive activities like calligraphy copying and pot-throwing games: they wrote "Happy Mid-Autumn Festival" with brushes, felt the elegance of ancient people’s pastimes in the fun competition, and the venue was filled with continuous laughter. At the end of the event, the students moved to the open-air platform on the third floor of the museum to admire the full moon together. Under the osmanthus trees, they hung handwritten wish cards, sending good blessings to their families far away and their study life in Yancheng.
This event is an important initiative of YCIT and Yancheng Museum to explore a new university-museum cooperation model and deepen cultural exchanges between China and other countries. It aims to let the international students from afar feel the warmth of home and festival reunion at Yancheng, and gain a deeper understanding of excellent traditional Chinese culture through rich and innovative interactive experiences.
