From June 5 to 7, the Jiangsu provincial finals of the 15th Challenge Cup National College Students Entrepreneurship Plan Competition were held at Jiangsu University. After intense on-site defense sessions, YCITs project, YuPet Technology — Pioneer of Chitosan Bone Pins for Pets Without Secondary Surgery, won the Special Prize and secured a spot in the national finals.

In addition, the project Desalination and Water Restoration — Anti-oil Pollution Purification Technology for Heavy Metal-Contaminated Water from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering won the First Prize. Mingjian·LiveVision — Chinas First Incubator-Embedded High-Throughput Live Cell Analyzer from the School of Information Engineering won the Second Prize. Three other projects claimed Third Prizes: Wind Power Eye — Intelligent Inspection and O&M System for Wind Power Equipment and Grain Safe Core Dryer — Electric-Infrared Multimodal Coupling Grain Drying Equipment from the School of Mechanical and Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, as well as Yunmu Zhikang — Full-Lifecycle Health Management Platform for Livestock from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The Special Prize-winning project, YuPet Technology — Pioneer of Chitosan Bone Pins for Pets Without Secondary Surgery, was recommended by the University Youth League Committee and submitted by the School of Materials Science and Engineering. The project was led by student Cui Zhicheng and supervised by Professor He Meng and his team. Focusing on pet bone repair, the project uses natural shrimp and crab shells as raw materials for chitosan and innovatively applies dual chemical and physical crosslinking technology. The result is a high-strength, high-toughness chitosan bone pin with controlled in-vivo degradation, which overcomes the processing bottlenecks of natural polymers, eliminates the need for secondary surgery in pet fracture treatment, and fills a gap in the pet bone repair market.

With the theme Youth Takes Responsibility for Chinese Modernization, the competition featured eight tracks, including biomedicine and health technology, new energy and new materials, and next-generation information technology. Over 50,000 innovative projects were submitted, attracting nearly 350,000 students to participate. After multiple rounds of selection—school-level screening, provincial online review, and final defense—771 projects advanced to the provincial competition, 376 entered the provincial finals, 94 won Special Prizes, and 98 were recommended to the national finals, setting new records in both participation scale and level of competition.
